Re: Let’s give David Moyes some credit
A couple of things I realised today:

Firstly, we didn't concede four in any league match all season. Have we achieved that in a top flight season before? I still find it ridiculous that in 98/99 we finished fifth despite conceding four eight times across the season.

Secondly, in twelve matches we scored three or more goals (i.e. pretty much a third of the games we played). Not bad for a manager with a reputation of playing dour football!

Moyes has done a great job and has silenced all his critics.
He is a clever man and a manager that learns from his mistakes, knows how to build a squad and how take the best out of his players.

Yeah you always want something to show for your hard work at the business end of the season. Top 6 is a just reward.

Re: Let’s give David Moyes some credit
He has done a brilliant job. To take us from a club battling relegation last season to 1 win off champions league this season is a fantastic achievement.

What pleases me most is seeing us play with a real togetherness and team focused work ethic, while still being nice to watch going forward. The right type of characters seem to be being brought in to the club as well.

We had a great season finishing 7th under Bilic, but a big part of that was individual brilliance of Payet inspiring us. Both very enjoyable to watch, but Moyes this season feels more satisfying.

Well you didn't disappoint with your usual snidey rant.

I can't see what's so wrong with reminding others that some of us supported the re-appointment of Moyes. We're not all haters you know.
Time you grew up pal.

We need to sing his name at the next home game. He deserves it.

FMOB we've got some negative posters on here. I suppose people will always have their own interpretations of history, but what can't be denied is that Moyes and his staff have done a fantastic job this season, better than any of us expected, even the most optimistic of us. Whether he can keep it going remains to be seen but for now, whatever you think about the owners and the stadium, there should be a really positive vibe around the playing side of the club.

Re: Let’s give David Moyes some credit
next season will be an even bigger challenge for Moyes.
realistically anything above 9th place will be a real achievement.

i think towards the end of this season teams have got wise to our approach. teams like newcastle and brighton let us have the ball and sat deep - which we struggled with.

recruitment will be key.

He's done a superb job, great credit to him and all the coaching staff.

Re: Let’s give David Moyes some credit
I was completely wrong about him. I thought at best he would be another BFS or Curbishley type who might keep us away from relegation and make us into a Burnley type outfit that was harder to beat. Football would be "functional" at best.

And a lot, if not the majority, of fans were not keen on him and wanted someone younger and more "progressive". We all got it wrong. Some were not even prepared to give him a chance. But I guess no one was ever going to be patient after GSB promises and the move, relegation threatened seasons year on year, the expectations and then the disaster that was Pellegrini.

The bit I never really understood was the accusations about him being "dour" and personal insults some use?. All a bit childish and irrelevant :-)

What we have seen is that he is a manager that needs a bit of time. But has shown he knows how to organise a team, create a team ethic, get the best from players in terms of work rate. It seems he has an eye for detail and leaves little to chance ( thorough, due dilligence tec). He used the lock down to his advantage making personal calls to each player in the summer and showed perhaps that managing the psychology of players is his biggest strength ( the old man management thing )?

What we don't know but it is probably a big factor too is the role and influence of Messrs Irvine, Nolan and Pearce. I do get the impression that Nolan is a real asset to the coaching team and apparently works with the defence and attack on drills , set pieces etc. and we are good at them.

Anyway, hold your hands up and admit you got it wrong. I do regularly :-) Very liberating.

But now a word of caution, Moyes has raised expectations ( victim of his own success ) and we might see a few dips in the coming seasons but if we can stay in the top 10 regularly he will become our best manager ever because we have never been a top 10 side year on year.

Those with confirmation bias and / or who are unwilling to be wrong ( weak psyche) will be lurking though waiting for the first signs of a slip by Moyes and co. 3 defeats on the spin next season will probably do it and we will see them surface once more with the vitriol and hissy fits :-)

post of the year? yeah, if you're into childish, self congratulatory, points scoring, told you so bollocks. not surprised the cunts who applauded it

Do you ever calm down and chill out, Mr Angry? We have just finished 6th and had our best season for years and all you can do is dig out fellow supporters who post an opinion on here.

Get a grip and a get a life, son.

Re: Let’s give David Moyes some credit
I like most are happy to give Moyes credit where he deserves it and he quite clearly does deserve it.

That said, I’m also prepared to criticise him where he is quite clearly lacking. I find it weird that some seem to be able to do one or the other.

Re: Let’s give David Moyes some credit
To be honest he obviously had nil offers on the table.

Has there EVER been a case where a manager has left a job (May 2018) and then returned to it over a year later (Dec 2019) without working ANYWHERE in between?

Re: Let’s give David Moyes some credit
Deserved a transfer window and a full year after installing a little bite back in us last season.

Used two windows well, brought in some people on and off the pitch that cared, played those that showed they wanted it and it made a huge difference.

Not perfect, not my choice but again absolutely deserves to take a project forward.

Watching those behind the scenes things the club does, it is great to see people acting like a team.

I can't believe anyone thinks they had to crawl back and beg him.

He was out of work and offered the opportunity to earn a fortune again.

I couldn't get through to the end of it without heaving. The old soak Alfs loves it of course, that and crying about Jack Grealish.
